The Department of Human Ecology advances sustainability by generating interdisciplinary knowledge about human–environment challenges, training students in critical, multi-perspective problem solving, and partnering with communities to translate knowledge into action.

We offer the Environmental Policy Institutions and Behavior major, minors in Science Communication and Sustainability, and a graduate certificate in Human Dimensions of Environmental Change. Your support directly funds hands-on learning:

  • $100 sends undergraduates to Atlantic City and Phillipsburg, NJ to learn how to evaluate local sustainability initiatives connecting towns and farms.
  • $500 supports graduate fieldwork in Manville, NJ on climate risk perception and adaptation; or a 10-day undergraduate field experience in Cape May studying shorebird management and tourism impacts.
  • $750 sponsors a graduate student’s travel to our Rutgers global summer program on sustainability governance.
  • $1,000 supports immersive undergraduate research with the Buffalo Field Campaign in Montana.

Gifts of any amount make a meaningful impact.
